Glad Tidings Orphan Care (GTOC) is a Malawian registered Community Based Organisation working in Ngolowindo region of Central Malawi a rural area suffering extensively from the challenges of living in poverty, with the local communities facing inadequate levels of income, fragile food security and a lack of educational investment and ambition. They struggle to access local health services because of their rural location.
Starfish Malawi is a registered charity seeking to tackle poverty, and impact the lives of children, both in Malawi and the UK. The charity has been the key funder for GTOC over the last twelve years, providing nursery education for 525 children who are currently enrolled. Additionally, clothes, a daily hot nutritious meal, mosquito nets, shoes, medical care and help for guardians to support disadvantaged children through Key Workers' home visits are provided. GTOC children are also supported in primary and secondary education.
Children in Malawi are born into a society devastated by poverty and ill health and that access to good education offers tools with which someone has an opportunity to best tackle the poverty that they were born into.
The Gregory Mills Foundation has made a grant to fund the daily hot meal for 525 children for one year.
